Connecting to STN with STN Express 8 with Discover! and Windows Dial-Up Networking (Microsoft Windows)

STN Express 8 for Windows can be configured to access STN via the Internet when you use Windows Dial-Up Networking (DUN) to connect to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your company or campus network. Creating a logon setup is easy using the STN Setup Wizard.

Assumptions

  1. You already have a DUN configuration for an ISP.
  2. You have an STN account with STN Karlsruhe and a login ID.

Creating Your Setup

First, launch STN Express so that the Main Menu & Toolbar appear on your desktop.

  3. Click Next.

Step F

Please click to enlarge

  1. Enter a Setup Name. Choose something that will help you identify this setup from others that you may create.
  2. You may type your STN login ID and STN Password, however, they are optional. If, for security or other reasons, you choose not to store this information in your logon setup, you will be prompted for each when you log on.
  3. Click Finish to exit the STN Setup Wizard.

What if the new setup doesn't make the connection?

  • Make sure your Dial-Up Networking setup works. Can you use it to browse the Web or to send and receive email?
  • Modify your logon setup to use the IP address 141.66.16.239 instead of the host name stnk.fiz-karlsruhe1.de. Sometimes the connection to STN can be made by address even when not by name.
  • Check with your ISP to make sure you have telnet access through port 23.
  • See other Internet connection tips on the STN Express software support page.

If you have any questions about using STN Express to connect to STN, please contact the STN Help Desk.
