The CPC as a Search Tool - Mind the Gap(s)
The Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) has been established as a high precision search tool for accessing world-wide patent literature since its launch in 2013. However, expert users need to be aware of the less obvious limitations related to coverage gaps, timeliness and reclassification issues (invalid codes). This session will provide guidelines how to overcome these limitations in the various STN databases such as CAplus, DWPI and INPADOC, and how to make the most of the CPC.

Life At The Triple Point
Patent searchers need a solid foundation in the science and technology that they will be searching, in patent law and patent practice as applied to information retrieval, and in the resources and tools used to find and deliver search results. With appropriate skills and experience in all three areas, searchers can deliver high-quality, high-value, double-platinum search services. Guest speaker David Saari will explore what life is like at the triple point of chemistry, patent law and scientific information search systems.

Getting More Out of your New STN Search
This session will highlight how new and less well-known features in new STN help you to add information like legal status to your search and edit the results especially by using the Excel output. The full process will be demonstrated taking a structure search as an example.
