New Format Adopted for Taiwanese Granted Patent Numbers in CAS Databases  and INPADOC

The new format for Taiwanese Granted Patent Numbers will avoid ambiguous patent numbers. In CASM/CAplusSM, CASREACT® , MARPAT® , INPADOCDB and INPAFAMDB Taiwanese granted patents (kind code B) issued on or after August 1, 2004, and with a patent number of 220001 or higher, now include the letter I (for Invention) before the patent number.

Example:
PI    TW I424801           B  20140121

In addition, in INPADOCDB and INPAFAMDB the format of Taiwanese publication numbers for utility models (kind code U) published on or after August 1, 2004 now include the letter M before the number.

Example:

PI    TW M471126U       U  20140121

The patent numbers now match the ones published on the front page of patent documents by the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO).

The Derwent World Patents Index® will also be adopting the updated Taiwanese granted patent number format in the near future.

Customers whose current awareness alert strategies (SDIs) or saved queries include Taiwanese patent numbers should update them to ensure continued retrieval.
