FILE UPDATES

1. BEILSTEIN - UPDATED

BEILSTEIN has been updated with about 120,000 new substances. About 40% are heterocyclic compounds, more than 20% are polymers, and about 20% are biomolecules. Pharmacological and reaction data for many of the new substances have also been added.

The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGuide and on the Web on our Database List.

2. EMBASE, EMBAL, AND LEMBASE - RELOADED WITH ENHANCEMENTS

Excerpta Medica (EMBASE), EMBASE Alert (EMBAL), and the EMBASE learning database (LEMBASE) have been reloaded with a number of enhancements:

  • Records now include 10- and 13-digit ISBNs when available
  • Accession Numbers (AN) now include the 4-digit year throughout the database

The following fields have been removed:

  • Document Number (DN)
  • Meeting Date (MD)
  • Meeting Year (MY)

EMBAL also includes the following enhancements:

  • Simultaneous left and right truncation (SLART) in the Abstract (AB), Title (TI), and Basic Index (BI) fields
  • Separately searchable AB field

For additional information on the reloads, enter HELP RLOAD at an arrow prompt (=>) in EMBASE, EMBAL, and LEMBASE.
The Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGuide and on the Web on our Database List.

3. INPADOCDB - ENHANCED WITH MONTHLY SDI FREQUENCY

Current-awareness alert (SDI) frequency in INPADOCDB may now be set to weekly (default) or monthly.

Family SDI display formats are valid for the current update only and should not be used for monthly SDIs.

For details on pricing, enter HELP COST at an arrow prompt (=>).

The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGuide and on the Web on our Database List.

4. REGISTRY - ENHANCED WITH ADDITIONAL EXPERIMENTAL SPECTRAL PROPERTY DATA

More than 85,000 proton NMR spectra for nearly 84,000 substances have been added to CAS REGISTRY.

The Field Availability (FA) search field has been updated with:

  • Hydrogen-1 NMR Spectra
  • Proton NMR Spectra

Substances with proton NMR spectra are also retrieved with the existing FA terms:

  • Spectra
  • NMR Spectra

In addition, two new display formats have been added to display spectral images:

  • SPEC.H1NMR
  • SPEC.PROTONNMR

The new formats are aliases of each other. Proton NMR spectra are also displayed in the spectra (SPEC) display format.

The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGuide and on the Web on our Database List.

5. STN ANAVIST - VERSION 2.0 NOW AVAILABLE WITH DERWENT WORLD PATENTS INDEX

STN AnaVist, Version 2.0, is the only platform that permits analysis of both CAplus and Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), with content processed by STN for optimal visualization.

In addition, with Version 2.0 you can:

  • Examine the Research Landscape from your point-of-view: take advantage of new clustering fields, including Technology Indicators, Exemplary/First Claim, All Claims, and International Patent Classification (IPC) Codes, and customize your visualization using combinations of text fields
  • Gain a more complete understanding of your data: create a variety of new bar charts based on Derwent Class, Derwent Manual Codes, Labels, and Patent Country Codes/Kind Codes
  • Perform comparative analysis with ease: use new document highlighting features, and up to eight highlighting colors at once, to compare multiple data sets
  • Enhance your document management: create new custom labels and apply them at any time to individual documents or document sets
  • Pinpoint the research of your competitors and customers: enhance your view of the Research Landscape with new 2D displays with white or black backgrounds

To start using the new features:

  1. Create a document set for visualization with the precise searching capabilities of STN Express, Version 8.2.
  2. Import your document set into STN AnaVist, Version 2.0, and click Visualize...

If you have an STN login ID and password, download STN AnaVist and STN Express software for free via the web site
http://www.stn-international.de/online_order_download.html

To request the software on CD-ROM, visit
http://www.stn-international.de/soft_order.html

If you are currently using STN Express, Version 8.2, install the discover.fil update when prompted to use all of the new features in STN AnaVist, Version 2.0.

With STN AnaVist, Version 2.0, you can now examine scientific and patent data from all angles. For additional information, visit

6. X.25 ACCESS TO STN KARLSRUHE IS BEING ELIMINATED BY JANUARY 2008

For many years STN Karlsruhe has offered access the STN databases via X.25. In the meantime, the TCP/IP has become standard and is used by the majority of the STN customers. The X.25 technology is no longer upgraded or supported - neither by the telecommunication providers, nor by our IT service partners.

This means that we will have to deactivate the X25 accesses on January 31, 2008, because we will no longer be able to ensure the usual quality and reliability of this service.

Therefore, please switch over to the already available TCP/IP accesses to STN as soon as possible. If necessary, discuss the required measures with your IT, network and security experts to make sure you will be able to continue using STN without any problems after January 31, 2008.

Should you have any concerns as to the security of TCP/IP access, or if your IT infrastructure does not support access via TCP/IP (Port 23), please check our new SSL/VPN option. This option provides secure, encoded access to STN, is much faster than Datex-P and will most probably comply with your IT security regulations.

For further information, please visit the STN homepage at
http://www.stn-international.de/fileadmin/be_user/STN/pdf/man/SSLVPN.pdf.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
