The new AQUIRE Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

4. CA/CAPLUS - SUBJECT AND SUBSTANCE INDEXING ADDED TO SOME PRE-1967 RECORDS; CA SECTION THESAURUS AVAILABLE

The CA/CAplus family of files continue to be enhanced with additional content for pre-1967 references. In December 2001, bibliographic information and CA abstracts were added for over 3.8 million documents covered in Chemical Abstracts in the 1st - 7th Collective Index periods (1907-1966).
Now, the first portion of subject and substance indexing for the 1907-1966 records in the CA/CAplus family of files is available. The initial release includes the 7th CollectiveIndex (1962-1966) entries corresponding to the print index letters A-K. Entries for other letters will be added during the next few months, followed by the earlier collective indexes. To learn more about pre-1967 reference enhancements, refer to the revised STNote No. 27, Searching pre-1967 reference in CAplus and CA, available at:
http://stn-international.de/fileadmin/be_user/STN/pdf/STNotes/note27.pdf

The eighty sections of Chemical Abstracts provide an easy way to focus a search within a specific subject category. Sections are available for all CA/CAplus records since 1907, but titles, numbers, and content have evolved over time.
The CA Section Thesaurus is now available in the CA/CAplus family of files on STN to guide you through the relationships and changes in the sections, and facilitate the use of this unique information.
To learn more about the CA Section Thesaurus, refer to the Using the CA Section Online Thesaurus Quick Reference Card, available at:
http://www.cas.org/ONLINE/QR/sectionthes.pdf

The revised Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

5. CHEMLIST - NEW LIST ADDED; TAIWAN TOXIC CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES LIST UPDATED

The German Water Hazard Class Substance List has been added. The WGK field identifies substances that have been assigned a Water Hazard Classification under the June 1999 Administrative Regulation on Substances Hazardous to Waters (Verwaltungsvorschrift wassergefaehrdende Stoffe (VwVwS)) in Germany.
For details, enter HELP WGK.
Updates to the Taiwan Toxic Chemical Substances List are now available.
The updates are current through July 2002.

The revised Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

6. PHAR - NEW MAJOR EVENT CATEGORY ADDED

Pharmaprojects has launched a 25th Major Event category, New Pharmacological Activity. This highlights when a new mode of action of a drug is discovered or identified. Search for this category in the Revision Note (/RNTE) field. For more information on major events, enter HELP MAJEVENTS in the file. If you have questions about the new event, contact Ian Lloyd, Managing Editor, at
ian.lloyd(at)pjbpubs(dot)com.

The revised PHAR Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

7. PHARMASEARCH - NEW FIELD, DOSE FORM, ADDED; TEXT FIELD DISPLAY ALTERED

A new field, Dose Form (/DOSFM), is available and provides the company's top 5 dose forms. It is searchable, displayable, selectable, and sortable. Both the code and the text of the dose form are searchable.

TOP 5 DOSE FORMS

DOSFM A tablets (39.5%); B coated tablets (36.8%); C capsules (16.0%); G liquids (7.4%); T creams (0.3%)
The Sales from top dosage form is now included in the Sales information displayed in the Text (TX) field. This data is searchable in the Basic Index (/BI) and displays in TX.
TX Company Information:
Group Ownership: 3M USA
Product line owned by 3M USA

TX Sales:
Sales (US$ Millions): 8-9
Sales from top 5 products: 95-100%
Sales from top therapy classes: 95-100%
Sales from top dosage form: 95-100%
Coverage: Company sales are within the top 90% of sales through retail pharmacies and hospitals in Puerto Rico.

The revised PHARMASEARCH Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

8. REGISTRY/ZREGISTRY - NEW COMMAND, SEQLINK EXACT, INTRODUCED; SEQUENCE DISPLAYS ENRICHED WITH PATENT ANNOTATION DATA; EXPERIMENTAL PROPERTY DATA ADDED; THREE FREE POLYLINK SEARCHES, PER ACCOUNT, IN SEPTEMBER AND IN OCTOBER 2002 NEW COMMAND, SEQLINK EXACT, INTRODUCED

A new command, SEQLINK EXACT, is now available in REGISTRY/ZREGISTRY. SEQLINK EXACT locates additional protein or nucleic acid sequences that have the same sequence backbone as that of a protein or nucleic acid sequence that has already been retrieved from REGISTRY/ZREGISTRY. Using SEQLINK, you may start with the CAS Registry Number for a sequence, or a set of sequences, of any length and easily retrieve all REGISTRY records for sequences with the same backbone structure(s) as those in the starting set.
For more details, enter HELP SEQLINK in the files or refer to STNote No. 32, Enhanced Sequence Searching in REGISTRY with SEQLINK at
http://www.stn-international.de/fileadmin/be_user/STN/pdf/STNotes/note32.pdf

SEQUENCE DISPLAYS ENRICHED WITH PATENT ANNOTATION DATA

The SQIDE, SQIDE3, SQD, and ALL display formats for sequences indexed from patents since October 1999 have been enriched with:

  • Additional annotations collected from the sequence listings that accompany sequence patents
  • The patent number, in STN format, for the patent from which the sequence was indexed
  • An indication of whether the sequence was claimed or not
  • The SeqID number, or other terminology, used in the patent to identify the location of the sequence in the patent document

This information displays in the Patent Annotations (PNTE) field and, except for the patent number, is searchable as individual words in the /PNTE field. The patent numbers can be searched in STN format in the Patent Number (/PN) field.

EXPERIMENTAL PROPERTY DATA ADDED

Experimental property values have been added to approximately 830,000 compounds for numeric search and display in REGISTRY/ZREGISTRY. With this content, you are able to explore REGISTRY for property data that typically is used in the characterization of synthetic compounds and in developing processes that use these compounds.
The experimental properties available are:

  • Boiling point
  • Density
  • Melting point
  • Optical rotatory power
  • Refractive index

To learn more about both experimental and calculated properties, see STNote No. 28, Searching Properties in the CAS REGISTRY file, available at:
http://www.stn-international.de/fileadmin/be_user/STN/pdf/STNotes/note28.pdf

THREE FREE POLYLINK SEARCHES, PER ACCOUNT, IN SEPTEMBER AND IN OCTOBER 2002

Explore how the retrieval of polymer information is easier and more comprehensive with three free POLYLINK searches, per account, in September 2002 and three free POLYLINK searches, per account, in October 2002. The POLYLINK charge will appear on your STN invoice; however, you will also automatically receive a credit, for the same amount, on the same STN invoice. All additional searches conducted with information obtained by using the POLYLINK command are billed at standard prices. Standard DISPLAY, PRINT, connect hour, and telecommunication charges still apply. Use this special offer to see how the POLYLINK command in REGISTRY can help you retrieve additional monomer-based and SRU CAS Registry Numbers. To learn more about POLYLINK, see STNote No. 31, Enhanced Polymer Searching in REGISTRY, available at:
http://www.stn-international.de/fileadmin/be_user/STN/pdf/STNotes/note31.pdf

The revised Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.
