FILE UPDATES

1. CA/CAPLUS - SEARCH AND DISPLAY FIELD /CK REMOVED

The search and display field, Crossover Key (/CK), has been removed from CA/CAplus databases.

The Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

2. EPFULL ENHANCEMENTS

ALL DETAIL DESCRIPTIONS LOADED

All detailed descriptions are available now for search and display. They are searchable in the basic index. For the history of the loading status of detailed descriptions for searching please see HELP DETD in the file.

DATA ON CITATIONS AND RELATED PATENTS SEACRHABLE NOW Additionally, information on Referenced Patent and Non-Patent Literature and data on Related Patents has been loaded to the file. The references are those from search reports (EPA1 or EPA3). Please note that the so-called XP reference numbers for non-patent literature are included.

Related Patent data concerns e.g. applications filed after an initial original application is filed but before it is issued as a patent and that involve similar or related technologies. For example, an inventor may come up with an improvement to technology disclosed in an earlier filed application.

The following new search fields have been implemented:

  • REN Referenced Non-Patent Literature
  • RPC Referenced Patent Country
  • RLC Related Application Country
  • RLN Related Application Number
  • RLPC Related Patent Country
  • RLPN Related Patent Number
  • RLT Related Application Type

The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

3. KOREAPAT ENHANCED

SDI OPTION ESTABLISHED

Effective March 20, 2005 KOREAPAT (Korean Patent Abstracts) will be enhanced with the SDI option.

UPDATE FREQUENCY CHANGED TO MONTHLY

As of February 2005 the update frequency of KOREAPAT has been changed from quarterly to monthly. Automatic current-awareness searches (SDIs) may be run on every update.

TITLE ENHANCED WITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The title of the invention, which has previously been translated literally into English, is now translated intellectually. In order to increase the efficiency of searches, supplementary information is incorporated in the translation of the original title.

The improved data are available as of update date 20050302.

TIMELINESS INCREASED

Unexamined Patent Applications (A-documents) and Examined Patents (B-documents) will now be present in the same update, which will increase the timeliness of KOREAPAT.

DATA FROM FOREIGN APPLICATIONS ADDED

Furthermore updates will contain documents from so called foreign applications. Foreign applications are applications filed from outside Korea.

For copyright issues these data had been excluded from KOREAPAT in the past. Examined Patents (KRB-documents) from Foreign Applications published from May 1999 to June 2004 have been added to the file recently (UP 20050105). Moreover in March (UP 20050304, 20050307, and 20050308) the file was enhanced with Unexamined Patents (KRA-documents) from Foreign Applications published between October 2000 and March 2004.

The mentioned enhancements will lead to a considerable improvement in timeliness, coverage and quality of the KOREAPAT file.

The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

4. PATDPASPC NEW TO STN

The SPC database of the German Patent and Trademark Office, PATDPASPC (German Supplementary Protection Certificates for Drugs and Plant Protecting Agents) is available now on STN.

PATDPASPC provides German Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs) for medicinal or plant protection products from the beginning of SPCs in Germany (1992). The database contains SPC applications as well as granted, rejected and dropped SPCs. The database is substance-oriented. For each SPC chemical names and CAS Registry Numbers of certified compounds are given together with essential information like SPC document number and publication number of the related patent. A database record in PATDPASPC comprises the SPC document number, the publication number and application date of the associated patent, SPC product type, SPC term (searchable start and lapse date), SPC application and grand date, chemical names (INN, synonyms) and CAS Registry Numbers of certified compounds and related compounds, trade names, notes about the legal status, main IPC and IPC version.

All information may be searched. Simultaneous left and right truncation

(SLART) may be used in basic index (/BI).

Additional information on the associated patent can be displayed from the database PATDPA with the display code BIB2. BIB2 consists of BIB and SPC.

Currently the file contains 659 SPCs. PATDPASPC will be updated irregularly. SDIs are not available in this file.

The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

5. REGISTRY/ZREGISTRY ENHANCEMENTS

ENHANCED WITH ADDITIONAL EXPERIMENTAL PROPERTY TAGS

Beginning March 20, 2005, and continuing through April 2005, over 2 million substances in REGISTRY will be further enriched with nearly 5 million references or "tags" that point to additional experimental property data. These tags for 186 different properties will have bibliographic references that direct users to the original source documents used to build the CAplusSM file.

Substances in REGISTRY may have two different types of experimental property data:

Currently available: Searchable numeric data for 13 properties with their own search and display fields, as listed on the database summary sheet. The numeric values for these properties are listed in the REGISTRY record.

New: Tags for 186 properties (including the 13 currently available) that point to CA references so that searchers can link to full text. These tagged properties can be spectra, charts, graphs, large tables, or numeric values. The tags will point to the literature reference where those data may be found. On an on-going basis, tags will continue to be added to CAS Registry Numbers® (RNs) as new references containing property data are identified.

ORIGINAL IDE DISPLAY FORMAT RETURNS TO REGISTRY AND CONTAINS ENTRY DATE (ED) INFORMATION

CA roles and document type information was added to the IDE display format in 2004. Due to customer requests, the CA roles and document type information has been removed from the IDE default display format effective March 20, 2005. A new display format, IDERL, will be added and contain the CA role and document type information. Both the IDE and IDERL display formats will contain the Entry Date (ED) field.

The Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

6. THOMSON SCIENTIFIC MANUAL CODE REVISION 2006

Thomson Scientific will implement a Manual Code revision in 2006 to ensure their patent information is in line with recent technological developments, and can be searched with precision. You can submit suggestions for this revision - such as new codes, revisions to scope notes or retirements of old codes - at
http://scientific.thomson.com/support/patents/dwpiref/reftools/classification/code-revision/.

The deadline for comments is 30 June 2005.
