FILE UPDATES

1. BEILSTEIN FILE UP-TO-DATE ON STN

BEILSTEIN, the comprehensive database in organic chemistry, has been updated on STN.

With the database reload in April 2002, BEILSTEIN’s user-friendliness has been improved. Moreover, new contemporary issues like ecological and pharmacological data were added to the file.

Now that all database updates from 2002 and the first update from 2003 have been loaded, the file is not only current regarding the subject coverage of the database, but also with respect to time coverage.

STN obtains the newest database updates from the database producer immediately after completion. One week after receipt of the data, the latest information is available in BEILSTEIN on STN.

About 67,000 new compounds per update are added to the database, and for numerous existing compounds information is supplemented. At present, BEILSTEIN features more than 8,6 million organic compounds and covers a time range from 1771 to 2002. In the future, the content of the BEILSTEIN database will be regularly updated four times per year.

The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

2. CA/CAPLUS ENHANCEMENTS

ENHANCED PATENT COVERAGE

Granted patents from Hong Kong (Intellectual Property Department), Monaco (Departement des Finances et de l'Economie, Direction de l'Expansion Economique, Division de la Propriete Intellectualle), and Slovenia (Slovenian Intellectual Property Office) are now covered in the CA/CAplus family of files. The coverage is retroactive to January 1, 2000.

In addition, patent documents from Bulgaria (Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria) are now covered in the CA/CAplus family of files. The coverage is retroactive to January 1, 2000.

CAS patent coverage information is available at:
http://www.cas.org/expertise/cascontent/caplus/patcoverage/

INDEXING COMPLETED FOR 6th COLLECTIVE INDEX

Subject and matched substance indexing for the 6th Collective Index (1957-1961) entries is now complete. Indexing for the 5th Collective Index (1947-1956) has begun. Enter NEWS FILE in either CA or CAplus for information about what has been completed.

To learn more about pre-1967 reference enhancements, refer to the revised STNote No. 27, Searching pre-1967 references in CAplus and CA, available at:
http://www.stn-international.de/fileadmin/be_user/STN/pdf/STNotes/note27.pdf

MORE CITATIONS ADDED

Citations from the 1998 CA/CAplus documents have started to appear in CA/CAplus. This addition will be completed later this year. In addition, beginning this year, examiner citations from Great Britain and France basic patents are being added to CA/CAplus. There are now over 80 million citations in CA/CAplus.

The revised Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

4. DWPI - NEW CURRENT-AWARENNESS FREQUENCY

A new current-awareness alert (SDI) frequency, weekly, has been added to DWPI (WPIDS/WPINDEX/WPIX). Current-awareness alerts are now available every update (2-3 times per week), weekly, and monthly. Every update is the default frequency.

The revised Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.

5. MEDLINE/LMEDLINE RELOADED

MEDLINE and LMEDLINE have been reloaded. MeSH Tree Numbers in the Controlled Term (/CT) field have been updated based on the 2003 MeSH vocabulary data.

7. RDISCLOSURE - NEW FULL-TEXT DATABASE

Research Disclosure, RDISCLOSURE, a new full-text database, is now available on STN. RDISCLOSURE is produced by Kenneth Mason Publications Ltd., Westbourne, Hants, United Kingdom.

RDISCLOSURE provides technical disclosure records from the defensive publication journal, Research Disclosure. For over 40 years Research Disclosure has held an unrivalled place as the primary rapid-disclosure mechanism for companies and individual inventors wishing to place their research findings in the public domain. The world’s longest running disclosure service, it is distributed monthly to, and routinely searched by, every known patent office or national IP authority.

Research Disclosure constitutes the most significant non-patent prior art database collection in the world, covering descriptions of inventions from all areas of science and technology, i.e. all classes of the IPC. It is the only dedicated rapid disclosure journal included in the PCT Minimum Documentation, ensuring its use during search examination by all leading patent offices around the world.

Industrial patent searchers, legal firms and individual inventors wishing to locate prior art, check for patentability or undertake validity or opposition searches, will all find RDISCLOSURE on STN a convenient and powerfull information access.

RDISCLOSURE covers descriptions of inventions from all areas of science and technology and contains over 27,000 records from 1977 to the present. It is updated monthly. Current-awareness alerts (SDIs) are also available monthly.

Each record contains the title, patent assignee (corporate and individual inventors as well as the statement 'anonymous'), patent, priority, and source information. The full-text is loaded in ASCII only for search in field /BI, the display format KWIC is available for evaluation of the search results. Display of the complete full-text including all illustrations is only available as page images (TIFF).

The TI and KWIC display formats display excerpts of the text of the record. The ALL display format displays the full-text article, including both text and non-text items, e.g., mathematical or chemical formulas and diagrams, as a TIFF image. SLART (Simultaneous Left and Right Truncation) is available in the Basic Index (/BI) field.

RDISCLOSURE participates in the STN Information Keep and Share Program.

For pricing information, see HELP COST in the file.

The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and on the Web on our Database List.
